Dementia is a neurocognitive disorder characterised by a global cognitive deterioration, resulting from a progressive and irreversible decline in brain function. Depending on the stage of the disease, in addition to cognitive impairment, dementia also involves other pathological manifestations in the behavioural and emotional spheres.
Transcranial Electrical Stimulation (tDCS) is one of the safe and effective treatment options for depression, cognitive impairment, auditory hallucinations in older adults. The ability to stimulate neuroplasticity by tDCS without significant adverse effects has encouraged evaluation of the efficacy of tDCS for many clinical indications in older adults with mental health problems.
More and more recent studies in the field demonstrate the effectiveness of using virtual reality in interventions for people with dementia. Studies show that virtual reality helps patients with dementia by accessing memories and encouraging positive emotions.
